Second-class night train
More than a train car, this is a fully autonomous educational hub on wheels, designed by Ippiart Studio for Russian Railways.

Designed to train staff in remote regions, this innovative carriage must withstand Russia's harshest environments. Because instructors and personnel spend weeks on board, whether the train travels across the country or remains stationed, the layout serves two purposes. By day, it functions as a modern, high-tech operational classroom for daily student training. At night, it becomes a comfortable hotel, fully equipped for long-term living and everyday work.

Half the car is for the educational class, and the other half is for educators' living quarters. The classroom section includes an interactive whiteboard and personal laptops for students. LED lighting is adjustable in brightness and color temperature to suit any weather and outdoor lighting conditions.

VIEW DESIGN PROCESS
We developed three distinct space concepts to support different teaching methods and learning processes.

The large shared table in the center is ideal for group work, collaborative projects, conferences, or open discussions, maximizing student interaction.
Railway instruction car
Desks along the windows and walls keep the center of the room open for movement.

Both of these formats are highly convenient for the teacher if the primary goal is to approach each student individually, monitor screens, and provide real-time feedback.

Final choice and ergonomics
Despite the advantages of the first two concepts, the final decision favored the individual-desk layout.

This choice reflects a more traditional learning process — constant interaction with the teacher and learning via an interactive whiteboard (located at the front of the class).

From an ergonomic standpoint, individual desks facing forward fit this setup best. Students can look directly at the board, whereas the other two configurations would force them to sit sideways, constantly turn around, and block each other's view. At the same time, this layout provides the most seating, making it the winning choice.
